William McCrum has had a great influence on the history of football. He was a goal keeper for ord Everton, a small club that played in the Irish Championship’s first season. He made a proposal in 1890 which was forwarded to the International Board for soccer. The proposal was initially met with widespread contempt. However, an incident that occurred in a match between Notts County and Stoke City changed the scenario. Notts were leading 1-0 when the incident occurred. Stoke got a good opportunity to equalize before the close, however they were thwarted by the tactics of Notts County which had great repercussions. There were a lot of deliberations after the match which led to the acceptance of the proposal of William McCrum in 1891. What was the proposal?
