We all go through writer's block. Stephen King turned it into a book - The Shining. It sounds like you're trying to tell the story instead of letting your characters tell it. When you create the character, you give him or her certain traits. If he is an alcholic, then ask what an alcholic would do in this situation. If he is a timid, pill-popping accountant, then ask the same question. Let them take you to the next page.
