I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and I plan on having children in the future, so...?

I'm curious, will they end up having to live like I did almost all of my childhood? What I'm asking is, Is diabetes hereditary, and if it is, should I even bother having my children suffer through what I did. I just want them to feel normal and happy and not have to worry about living in fear of what they can and can't do.
