How do kids die from the swine flu or any other flu?

my kids both became sick a day apart. They have fevers of 103.0 and a sore throat and cough. I have been in panic mode because of all the headlines of children dying from the flu even if they seem to get better. How are these kids dying and what do I need to look for? thanks so much.
